THEME I

Bean Sprout 0 & 1

The bean sprout is a powerful symbol.  Its unique shape evokes the numbers "o" and "1".  The "0" of the bean sprout represents nothingness or emptiness, a void that is pregnant with potential.  The "1", on the other hand, represents possibilities and growth. The dynamic interplay between these two forces for growth and renewal is inherent in every moment.

I explore the delicate and ephemeral nature of the bean sprout, using it as a visual metaphor for the transformative power of human spirit.  Each painting is a meditation on the beauty and impermanence of life, inviting the viewer to contemplate the interconnected-ness of authentic existence.

Through my paintings, I aim to capture the essence of this humble plant and its symbolic significance.  By incorporating the shape of the bean sprout as a "0" and "1" into my art, I am creating a new language for expressing the hope that is at the heart of the human experience, reminding us that even in the face of adversity, there is always the potential for growth and transformation. A highlight is on the inner strength and resilience that we all encounter on our journey towards self-discovery and spiritual awakening.

MESSAGE

Bean Sprout Zen

By incorporating the shape of the bean sprout into visual language, Cymn’s art creates an alternative way of revealing the wisdom of Zen philosophy and its insights.  The unique aesthetic of her paintings is a fusion of the fluidity and freedom of abstract expressionism with the contemplative practice of Zen calligraphy. This combination of passionate energy and meditative stillness presents a work that is at once dynamic and contemplative, evocative and reflective.

Wong’s work offers a powerful and unique contribution that speaks to the universal experience of hope and transformation, and to the fundamental human desire for growth, renewal, and transcendence.  Through the interplay of gesture and action, it is both contemporary and timeless.  Each brushstroke is an expression of the moment and a reflection of the artist’s inner landscape, while leaving the empty space around serves as a container for the infinite possibilities.

In the process of semi-blind painting, Cymn Wong seeks to cultivate a sense of presence and mindfulness, using the brush as a conduit for the flow of creative energy and inspiration. It helps to scrutinize the interconnectedness of our inner and outer worlds, on the delicate balance between hope and despair, perseverance and hesitation, and the ongoing struggle to find deeply personal and universally resonant meaning and purpose in our lives.
